About us

Our Story

Made by Hand.
Built to Last.

A small New Zealand studio obsessed with leather that ages beautifully. No machines, no shortcuts — just honest craft and materials that earn their keep.

Who We Are

Heirlooms
in the making.

Zando crafts leather goods that grow richer with your life, not just time. Using the world’s finest full-grain leathers — from Italy, the USA, Australia, and local tanneries — we handmake wallets, belts, and card holders to last decades.

No machines, no shortcuts. Just honest stitching and leather that ages uniquely with every scratch, sunbeam, or coffee spill. These aren’t accessories — they’re heirlooms in the making.

Every piece leaves our Auckland workshop cut, stitched, and finished by hand. We take the time because the leather deserves it — and so do you.

What We Stand For

The principles behind
every stitch.

01

Full-Grain Only

We use only the top layer of the hide — the strongest, most character-rich part. It scars, patinas, and tells your story over decades of use.

02

Handmade Always

Every piece is cut by hand, saddle-stitched, and edge-finished in our Auckland workshop. There is no production line. There never will be.

03

Built to Outlast

We reinforce stress points, use waxed thread, and select leathers that harden and strengthen with age. A Zando piece should outlive the trends.

04

No Shortcuts

We allow up to two weeks to make your order because rushing leather is how you ruin it. Good craft takes the time it takes — and it’s always worth it.

Where It Comes From

Leather we’d
stake our name on.

We source from tanneries with decades — sometimes centuries — of expertise. Each hide is chosen for its grain structure, tannage method, and how it will age. We don’t compromise on the raw material because the leather is the product.

The Maker

Haroon Mustafa

Founder & Chief Leather Nerd

Auckland, New Zealand

Zando started the way most good things do — with an obsession. Haroon couldn’t find a wallet that was both genuinely well-made and worth passing down, so he learned to make one himself. What began as a personal project in Auckland became a small studio with one unwavering rule: nothing leaves the workshop unless it’s better than anything you could buy elsewhere.

He sources every hide personally, cuts every pattern by hand, and stitches every piece himself. When you order from Zando, it’s Haroon who makes it — and that’s something that will never change.

“I want people to still be using their Zando piece in twenty years and feel proud of it. That’s the only standard I work to.”

— Haroon Mustafa, Founder
